Bill Heffernan has to Go.

May 20, 2012
  • Abbott’s “henchman” has to go after homophobic “gay bashing”
  • Heffernan assaults gay MP in unprovoked attack
  • “I didn’t know you were a poofter” says “the Heff” during bashing.

“Biffo” Bill Heffernan is the subject of a police investigation after he launched a violent homophobic attack physically assaulting Chris Hartcher, the NSW Energy Minister.

Ray Carter, 67, has accused Senator Heffernan of assaulting him and vilifying him over his sexuality at a gathering in the federal electorate of Robertson.

Senator Heffernan was acting as a suppository of Tony Abbott at the “Breakers Country Club” at Wamberal on May 3.

A Liberal source said the pair had been seen to physically clash on two occasions during the evening and alleged that Senator Heffernan had aimed ”homophobic slurs” at Mr Carter.

In a statutory declaration, Mr Carter alleges Senator Heffernan hit him on his shoulder, causing him to fall into his seat, and later saying to him: ”I didn’t know you were a poofter.”

Along with Senator Arthur Sinodinos, the Liberal state president, and Mark Neeham, the party’s NSW director, Senator Heffernan was in Wamberal to placate branch members upset at candidates being imposed against their wishes in the seats of Dobell and Robertson.

In Mr Carter’s statutory declaration, published in News Limited newspapers today, he said: ”Senator Heffernan leaned over and hit me on my left shoulder and said something I did not hear (I am partially deaf in one ear) and tried to grab a sheet of paper out of my hands. I was knocked off balance. I said:

‘Take your hands off me!’ I then fell into my seat.”

He continued: ”I was shaken and upset. I said nothing more. At the end of the meeting I was standing next to the exit door leading into the corridor.

”I was alone though many people were milling about. Senator Heffernan walked up to me and said in a low voice: ‘I didn’t know you were a poofter.’ He said this in an aggressive manner. Rather than have a confrontation I left.”

Mr Carter, who has been suspended from Mr Hartcher’s electorate office over a donation scandal, waited nearly a fortnight to report the allegation to Gosford police.

Bill Heffernan is no stranger to controversy and has form in homophobic outbursts.

He was previously forced to apologise after falsely claiming that Justice Michael Kirby used Commonwealth cars to procure young men for sex.

If Tony Abbott fails to sack Bill Heffernan over this blatantly offensive violent homophobic bashing, then his hypocrisy will be on display for all to see while calling for Craig Thomson for the lesser offence (in my opinion) of financial indiscretions.

Heffernan belongs somewhere like Crapperville, not parliament.

Katter admits he made a mistake of enormous proportions.

I don’t know why the homobasher and slanderer is still in parliament after the Kirby slander. Liberal hypocrisy knows no limits.
Their answer? “it’s different” (it always is…for them!).

Whoever votes for them has no personal integrity or principle IMO.

    Kittylitter, for you, the difference:

If Heffernan acted as he is accused of, then I for one will quite happily see him booted.

‘Whoever votes for them has no personal integrity or principle IMO.’

That’d be 51% of the electorate, according to the latest Newspoll.

Well we do not know if it was a homophobic assault. The guy he supposedly hit may have been a jerk. I recall Mark Latham breaking someone’s arm.

But I guess assaulting someone is serious. Whether it was because he was homosexual is another question.

… the dumped parliamentary secretary to Cabinet accepts the document he relied on to make the allegation had been fabricated by others. Senator Heffernan has also apologised to the Senate, the Parliament, the Prime Minister and his Coalition colleagues, but was censured by the Senate for his abuse of parliamentary privilege…

That’s crap james, a very quiet apology after enormous damage was deliberately done to someone’s esteemed reputation and community standing. Not nearly enough punishment or condemnation. I don’t believe for a minute that he was taken in by the false documents – he probably dummied them up himself. It was a deliberate and planned attack (as per usual). Heffernan should have been thrown out of the doors of parliament, on his arse…and received a huge financial penalty…and jailed, even that’s too good for him!

Abuse of parliamentary privilege, that’s standard operating procedure for the Coalition.

And besides, if you are going to mount an attack on someone in the coward’s castle – isn’t there an obligation to ensure that it is truthful and factual? The most privileged people in the land abuse that privilege for grubby, smutty, sleazy, bedroom politics, while the important stuff is completely ignored. The 51% of the public should be outraged about the quality of our parliamentarians and politics, a disservice at great public expense.

    kirby, grech etc

Same old same old, it’s standard liberal party politics.

He apologised in the same place he made the allegations. He denies the current allegations. Come and talk to us in 4 years when Heffernan prepares his comprehensive statement.

Bill amongst his mates…haha, what a comedown, what suffering he endured!

    He denies the current allegations.

So has slipper, so did thomson…seems only the opposition gets away with a denial and a “it’s different when it’s us, move on now”.

Come and talk to us in 4 years when Heffernan prepares his comprehensive statement.

That’s my whole point, he should never have been up for re-election and never sat his bum on a chair in this current parliament… the hypocrites party and the ‘Slippering’ of their MPs.

Absolutely. Heffernan has form. Surely the Libs could to better. It is not as though their ranks are overflowing with talent.

“…and jailed, even that’s too good for him!”

He should have his head & hands severed & mounted on spikes above the Gates of Winterfell.

Go on say something...
